Birthday Fun

On Friday we celebrated my 28th birthday. We spent the afternoon enjoying our downtown. We went ice skating, warmed up with lattes at a local french cafe, went on a holiday carriage ride and later in the evening went out for dinner.

Neither of us have been ice skating in quite some time so we were a little wobbly at first, but it didn't take too long to figure it out! At one point we were the only ones on the ice and we used this time to act like kids. We took up the whole rink to play tag, race each other, and practice skating backwards. It was a fun day!

That sounds like a perfect winter day downtown. I'm so glad that you had such a fun time - you deserve it! :)

Where was the surprise dinner at? We are covered in 4-6 inches of snow. Grandma has at least 8-10 inches. Looks like winter here. Roads were glare ice on Tuesday. Home feels pretty good and safe, for now. I'm baking Christmas cookies and singing Christmas songs with professional singers, on the radio. I think I have some versions of the songs they may like!!! My Story

I was at a leadership conference taking notes of things I could apply to my job. And then it happened...the Lord nudged me. It was an out of the blue whisper about starting a family. He called me in the midst of good career (albeit, one I wasn't particularly enjoying at the time), gave me the desire to have children, allowed my husband and I to struggle to conceive for two years, and has since turned me into a stay-at-home mom of twin boys and a girl. Ten years ago if you'd have asked me where I saw myself 10 years from now, I'm confident this is not the story I would've shared! God gave me a mission and I'm so thankful that I responded to that nudge.

About Instilling Character

Instilling Character was born out of my need to be authentic. I want to share the day to day stories of the mission God gave me. I want to go beyond the highlights and into real life. What do I do all day, one might ask? I instill character into the hearts of my children. It is the intangible, unquantifiable, cumulative effect of all the small things that I do each day. And since I'm being real...it's the hardest work I've ever done. Character comes via the route of trials and tribulations and requires a boat load of endurance, but in the end, it's character that defines a person.
