We rented a very nice two bedroom, two bath house. The house sat up on a bluff overlooking East Sound.

I found Orcas Island to be very unique. It is heavily treed and mountainous! Sure didn't feel like you were on an island. The views in all directions were gorgeous and everything was very lush and green.
Our house was located near Moran State Park, which has several mountain lakes, waterfalls, hiking trails, and is home to Mt. Constitution lookout tower. From the tower, you can see for miles and miles. The Cascades, Olympics, and the Canadian Rockies (I think) are all visible from this point. We spent a good amount of time taking in the views of the never ending water, mountain, and sky.
A gray day, but still beautiful
We hiked around Cascade Lake, a 2.5 mile loop trail, thankful for the large canopy of trees overhead as it had decided to rain shortly after we started walking.
Man & his dog

My dad, Wayne, step mom, Jean, Me and Ben with Cascade Lake in the background. A nearby rock allowed us to set up the timer on the camera and capture all of us together...

What a special time and a great place to stay! I love seeing pics of you and your family together.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bethany - you look so happy in that last picture! I really want to visit the San Juans again after reading this...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures and so scenic. It would be hard to leave there. Didn't you just daydream about living there? Ha! Love the man & dog picture. You should get that blown up into a narrow poster size in black and white, have it framed professionally and hang it on the wall. Would look awesome! Remember the size of your HS grad picture, the poster one? That was cool!
